MOORES MUSIC ACADEMY

Location | Moores building, Fremantle WA

The brief project was based around a proposed restoration of the existing Moores building complex by the City of Fremantle. After an initial study of the existing building  I identified the following:

-The complex and its multiple functions are disconnected from each other leading to awkward spaces that aren't fully utilised by the public.

-The existing architecture is concealed and overwhelmed by its modern additions which are inefficiently planned.

-The site is primarily used through out the day but isn't utilised after hours.

These observations would need to be addressed in the proposed restoration.

My proposal retains elements of the building exisiting mix use, the cafe and gallery, but revisiting these areas to make them work more efficiently. The courtyard and other portions of this building were readapted to include a music academy and intimate performance spaces which would attract people to this area throughout the day and night, stimulating the community and increase the liveability of the area.
